It has been a few years now that I visited Sonamarg. But still, I reminisce about the beauty of the valleys, lakes and the silvery mountains across. As a tourist, if you are visiting Sonamarg the only intention should be to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the place. If you haven’t visited the place yet, this is for you.
Continue Reading on to know more about the place and get a fair idea of what to do and to visit other places in the vicinity.

Sonamarg- The meadow of gold

Sonamarg is a small hill station in Jammu Kashmir which is a hotspot for tourism. The place is of historical significance as it was a getaway Silk Road with Gilgit connecting mainly Kashmir and Tibet. Standing high on the elevation of 2800 meters. The main attraction is the road connecting to Sonamarg via Srinagar which gives an incredible view of a mountain filled with snows. Once you are in Sonamarg you will be mesmerized by the beautiful sun-kissed meadows and the wildflowers spread across the valleys.

A picturesque perfect views and places that would remain in your memories forever and ever. Tourists come here during weekends to get away from the hustle-bustle of the city and breath fresh mountain air. Apart from scenic nature and snow-filled mountains, few other reasons pull travellers to this beautiful hill station.
There are few fabulous trekking and hiking trails around the vicinity of Sonamarg.

  •  Adventure-seeking travellers do have a gala of time with professional guiding them through.
  • Sonamarg comes under the Thajiwas range and thus had some exotic variety of trees that touches the sky, such as pine, brich and fir.
  • These trees and the area fledged by their shadow makes them a better place for camping and nightlife.
  • The Himalayan lake, Vishansar is located at the end of the trekking route from the hilltop.
  • The trekking trails can go as far as they can reach up to Leh.

Tourists hire a bike for rent to get a glimpse of every nook and corner of the hilltop. Once you reach Sonamarg there are quite a few ways to travel around the hill station. Also, Sonamarg can be reached from all over India.

Air – tourists have the nearest Srinagar international airport which is hardly 80 km from the city. You can avail cab from the airport to reach.

Rail– The Srinagar railway station is the nearest to Sonamarg. There are buses and cabs to connect to the destination.

Road – Almost all major cities are connected via road making it easier to fir the travellers to opt to drive their way towards the beautiful destination.

A few other destinations you should visit while visiting Sonamarg.

Sonamarg is indeed a beautiful place for a fabulous weekend getaway, however, if you are willing to stay a bit longer you should be lucky enough to visit a few more breathtaking places nearby.

Pahalgam

Pahalgam

Pahalgam is also known as the paradise for trekkers. You must have assumed it already then what an experience it would be for the adventure seekers? Pahalgam lies amid the Aru and Sheshnag rivers. Also, the place is best for camping and bonfires, with trees and crystal clear sky above you.

Srinagar

We are aware of the beauty of Srinagar, this summer capital of Jammu Kashmir is undeniably the main tourist attraction. The city is called the city of lakes due to the beautiful lakes across the city. There is some exquisite Mughal architecture that lures the tourists to click some wonderful pictures to take home.

Patnitop

A best for honeymooners and couples, this is an exotic hill resort in the Udhampur district. Visit around the winters and enjoy the heavy snowfall which is a major attraction.

Sonamarg is best for a day’s tour. During winters it is not feasible to visit Sonamarg as the roads and area around the vicinity will be covered by snow. Sunny days are best to visit the place and if you are going on a road trip then you are definitely going to have a fabulous day!
