Punjabi Foods have their unique value in every Indian’s life. The foods here are so delicious, that you should really give it a try. The flavors and different dishes of Punjab are so different in taste, that you can’t get bored with it. Punjab is famous for its bread production. But still, the maximum food here does not contains bread. Strange!! Punjabi food is so famous in North and Central India that even the South Indians think the maximum north Indian people are Punjabi’s.

Lassi, made out of curd, is a well-known beverage of Punjab, which is available in every home during summers.

1. Butter Chicken

Butter Chicken is one of the famous dishes in Punjab. Any dish that has butter in it, will be liked by Punjabi’s. This dish is famous worldwide but it was invented in Punjab.

It is one of the main Punjabi Foods that is served on special occasions. Most of the family make this dish in their day to day life as it can be served with any meal. Butter Chicken is slightly spicy and is better served with Rotis like Rumali Roti or Tandoori Roti.

2. Shakkar Para – sweet among Punjabi Foods

Shakkar Para is a sweet dish from the land of Punjab. It can be paired with either Tea or when you are striving for a sweet taste. This dish is made from Flour and Semolina.

This is actually very light for the stomach and is always prepared with less sugar. Its taste can vary according to the sweetness needed, can be covered in a garnished coconut wrap or dipping this dish in a sweet coarse with flavor like Cardamom, Kesar, etc.

3. Lassi

The delicious drink Lassi is quite popular not even in Punjabi Foods but all over India. The taste of Lassi is so refreshing that it will surely quench your thirst and make you feel refreshed instantly.

The Lassi is the official drink in Punjab which is available in many different flavors like Mango or Strawberry.

4. A traditional Punjabi Foods Chole-Bhature

Chole with Bhatura is quite a famous dish that originated from Punjab. This dish is served at all fast-food restaurants across India. Both are a great combination for each other with some chutney or achaar. The Chole is a chickpea dish that is a specialty of Punjabi’s.

Bhatura is made from the mixture of Flour and Milk rather than wheat Flour. If you see a Bhatura you will think of it like a poori, but trust me it is totally different. Its size is bigger than a poori and the taste provided is quite different from a poori.

5. Parantha one among Punjabi Foods

Parantha is a flatbread that is a staple dish of Punjabi household. It can either be stuffed or plain. Parantha is quite popular breakfast meals in north India. The tastiest Parantha’s are found in Punjab or in Delhi’s Parathe Wali Gali.

Paranthas is a heavy meal and it is made from Ghee with extreme use of Butter. The most favorite drink that goes with Paranthas is Lassi. Different varieties of parantha are available like plain, stuffed and lachedar.

6. Amritsari Fish

An astounding contribution of the food of Punjab to India, Amritsari Fish is a most loved dish among non-veggie lovers of India! A succulent fried fish can be had either with naan or simply like that since it is a dry dish.

Fried with Batter dipped, it is delicious and soft from inside being spicy. It is served everywhere throughout the nation with a similar name which is just a demonstration of its prevalence. A spicy fish with cold lassi, you can’t turn away from this mix.

7. Dal Makhani

It is one the most famous Dal recipe in Punjab. This recipe is even followed by maximum restaurants in India. This buttery Dal dish is a combination of Black Lentils, spices and Red Beans mixed to prepare a thick gravy. Small amount of cream is also added for extra flavors. Dal makhani is usually allowed to cook in a simmer environment for 2-3 hours to get it to thicken and for the flavors blend in perfectly. When prepared this dish has a great aroma which will make you grab this dish sooner than later.

8. Paneer Tikka

Also known as ‘chicken of the vegetarian eaters’, the Paneer Tikka has an exceptional spot in Punjabi Food. Chargrilled and spiced, this delicate cheese is the first to strike a chord when one considers a starter food. Also, to be perfectly honest, any menu would be inadequate without it.

9. Makke Ki Roti – the heart of Punjabi Foods

Makke Ki Roti and Sarson Ka Saag go hand in hand like Burger and Cheese or Pizza and Seasoning. This flatbread is made from maize flour, flour(cornmeal) on a flat Tawa (griddle) with some ghee or oil. Makke Ki Roti is also known as Makke Di Roti in Punjab.

But if you are planning to make this dish, add some quantity of flour or grated radish so that the cornflour does not crumble and it holds together. Also served with Jaggery, this is really a match made in a Punjabi-Food culture.

10. Pinni

While eaten as a treat, this is a dish is generally made in winters. It is made with desi ghee, wheat flour, jaggery and almonds – the fixings give a ton of warmth and vitality during winter.

11. Kada Prashad
