Quebrada de Humahuaca is yet another marvel from the extreme north of Argentina. It is a tiny city from Jujuy which was declared on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2003. With more than 11000 people residing in the place it makes it one of the best offbeat tourism places in Argentina.

As per tourism, it is quite a fabulous place that lures people with its landscape beauty and significant historical places. The place is well known for the rocky hills and the very beautiful Quenchan villages. Also, there are Seven color Hills which are known for cathedrals and intimidating landscapes. A tiny Spanish village on top of it serves as a topping on the cake!

The name Quebrada means broken or ravine and it has received its name from the city of Humahuaca

Quebrada de Humahuaca is an important place when it comes to the social-cultural and economic development of the valley. It also serves as one of the main routes towards communication. And a major linkage that connects the high Andean Lands and South America. Also, the place holds a prominent place in maintaining the ecosystem of the city. The valleys were once used for the development and trading used for major trading purposes.

Archeological findings and history behind the Place

The Quebrada de Humahuaca valley of Argentina has a unique place for nature. And that leads to several archeological findings in the city. Archeologists have found several finding in the land of Quebrada de Humahuaca that gives a proof of excessive settlement from an early period.  There is lots of evidence of farm and agricultural settlement in the surroundings.  However, with evidence pointing out to the hunting tools and archaeological sites to sustain as proof. It is a bit obvious that the place has a prehistoric touch.

The place also has a history of large structure and colonization that leads to settlements. This happened around 400 to 900 AD. Then began the reign of a pre-Hispanic era that pays way to the formation of towns and villages. Then as the era of the Incan empire started there was a tremendous rise in buildings especially churches, cathedrals and towns. Soon there was a glorious architecture exploration that swept away the place in no time.

The Quebrada de Humahuaca Valley in the 15th century was a noted link between the Viceroyalty of two different places and battles that erupted for independence.

The Quebrada de Humahuaca Valley is World UNESCO Heritage Site. And the reasons contributing to the title are several. Firstly, the valley has been a part of the survival for ages, precisely saying 10000 years. It was a crucial way for the trading voyage as well as the commutation of the people. The pace has the perfect setting of endangered settlement too. Numerous pre-historic settlements in the valley reflect the associated system.

The measures to protect the Site

Several laws are applicable to protect and ensure the protection of the endangered site. The provisional law for the land and other specific property and regulated the development of the land. Also, municipal law is implemented to protect certain property and the landscapes of the heritage site. The Quebrada de Humahuaca valley comes under the national constitution of 1994. Which provides cultural protection to the world heritage site.  There are two villages Purmamarca and Humahuaca that are on the list of best historical places within the Quebrada de Humahuaca Valley. The National decree established in the year 1941 protects the churches, cathedrals, chapels and other religious architectural eminence of the place. This UNESCO world heritage site also preserves the folklore and craftsmanship of the place. The inscription on the rocks of Quebrada is preserved with great care.

How to Reach Quebrada de Humahuaca

You can reach Argentina by Flight from another part of the world. And for the local people, it is quite easy to commute to the Quebrada. Tourist comes here from Humahuaca which is about 25 Kilometers. It will be a better idea to rent a car to tour the place for a hustle-free experience.  Also, bus services are running through the city. That will help you to go through the city particularly to the archaeological sites of the Quebrada. When you reach the site, it is better to walk around and enjoy the best of the UNESCO World Heritage Site sites.

Quebrada is astonishingly one of the best offbeat places in Argentina. The fabulous colorful mountains and landscapes throughout the place make it indeed one of the best UNESCO World Heritage. Most of the time there are we opt for places that are famous for tourism.  Places that are popular and Insta perfect are most visited which renders the economic flow to the country. It is important to visit such a place that needs to be preserved and encourage sustainable tourism.
