Jakarta and Bali are the most explored, travelled and Instagrammed destinations of Indonesia. I don’t why I just stuck with the beauty of this country. Some destinations and spots are still uncovered by many travellers. The natural beauty, Borobudur Temple, Swings of Ubad, national parks and mesmerising beaches of Nusa Islands filled with romantic ambience has pulled many travellers and couples towards Indonesia. However, Lombok is still unexplored and unspoiled. This destination is special in Bali.
So I am here again with another new post, one more destination of Indonesia – Lombok which you must cover during your Indonesian trip…
Lombok – Untouched Destination of Bali
Lombok is offering incredible beaches, waterfalls and even a volcano, but without the huge crowds of tourists as it is still undiscovered. The reason is that the tourism industry of these islands wants to be kept under control to protect the historical and natural allure of Lombok. Its landscape and traditional ancient spots and islands are highly admirable and if somebody wants to spend private time with their loved ones then … besides Bali, then Lombok is good for them.
On the main Lombok Island itself, Selong Belanak is among the most beautiful beaches while the village of Sukarare offers a fascinating glimpse into local handicrafts and lifestyles. Oh wait let’s discuss appropriately all of them –
Main Places of Interest For A Lombok
The Gili Islands:
The major highlight and top destination of Lombok are the Gili Islands which further comprises 3 sub gorgeous tropical islands, They totally a paradise for couples to spend good time together and all of them are distinguished, have a unique atmosphere and allure. They are located off the north-west coast and can be reached by speedboat from Lombok. The Gili Islands are great for beautiful beaches, swimming, snorkelling, diving, kayaking, paddle boarding and partying.
- Gili Trawangan: The most famous and established among the three is Gili Trawangan. Gili Trawangan is renowned for its party and drinks, traditionally recognized as a backpacking mecca. But it’s a long way to go and now is familiar and has more rooms away from the main bars. The largest of the 3 Gili Islands, it has the longest and best laid-out roads, ending at its northwest’s most tranquil beaches. Within just an hour, you can comfortably go for a leisurely walk around the entire Gili Trawangan radius.
- Gili Meno: The centre of the islands is Gili Meno and therefore the least established. There are a few options here for accommodation. The island is calmer and more relaxed than Gili Trawangan, but less to do.
- Gili Air is the nearest and has a laid-back feel to Lombok mainland. It is the second most common island after Trawangan. It also has a very current party scene with high season full moon parties. Gili Air provides a perfect mix of white sand and crystal-clear waters favoured by divers and snorkelers, as well as a wide variety of restaurants, beach bars and dive shops that can be found both within and along the coast.
From Lombok to Gili islands you can choose any means of transport majorly the most entertaining one are the waterways, but still, you can hop these island using charter boats, motorboats, walking is the cheapest and often the most enjoyable way to enjoy the Gilis. After that when you reach there you can use traditional horse-driven carts.
Trek Mount Rinjani Volcano
To enter Mount Rinjani through the National Park, you have to head north from Senaru village. Mount Rinjani’s mountain is an active volcano, commonly referred to as the Rinjani gun. It is the second-highest volcano in Indonesia after Mount Kerinci in Sumatra. This is everyone’s most glorious view.
Many people go trekking in the hilly countryside, which is dominated by Segara Anak, known as Crater Lake. It is one of Indonesia’s best destinations to visit. Mount Rinjani is also an outstanding spot to go hiking. For travellers visiting Lombok, it is also the most rewarding experience.
Stay at Senggigi
Senggigi is the tourist hub of Lombok mainland. You can find nice beaches here, a variety of lodging options, some local shops and places to eat. But you don’t come here to pack your day full of things to do. You must come here to unwind yourself.
You can explore the town and surrounding areas. Use Senggigi as your base, take coastal drives, enjoy on the beaches, snorkel, dive, surf. Your visit to Senggigi will be blissful. It was an exciting feeling like you had been somewhere a lot of people hadn’t visited. It’s a refreshing experience for you with your partner to do crazy stuff at this spot.
Enjoy Surfing at Kuta
Kuta is located on the south coast of Lombok and is a popular destination for surfers. It has some accommodation options but not as many as Senggigi and is not as developed as Senggigi. It is great for beautiful beaches and surfing.
Shop & Dine at Mataram
Mataram is the capital of Lombok and is located in the west region. In Mataram, you can expect mainly shops, a shopping mall, and restaurants. Worth a day trip if you have time, but during your Lombok holiday you can take a break in this main city and enjoy shopping and dining.
Mesmerised By Cascading Waterfalls
Tiu Kelep Waterfall and Sendang Gile Waterfall are located in the town of Senaru. They’re also two of the most famous waterfalls in Lombok. The nearby short trail to Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep waterfalls is a nice treat and give a perfect relief from your exhausting tour.
Eating Options: Lombok has little places to eat called mostly under a bamboo straw roof. Only the small area around Senggigi is packed with chain restaurants and large hotels.
Best Time to Visit Lombok
As well as the weather is concerned, the best time to go to Lombok is from July to August as the ambience is coolest at this time. But it is also the peak season naturally, thus make a note when the tourist crowd is most and avoid that season and but for better experiences do booking in advance.
How to Reach Lombok
Lombok has an international airport, but a more budget-friendly choice will be to fly to Bali first if you’re not coming from neighbouring countries. The bulk of international flights arrive at the airport in Bali. You can either travel to Lombok from there or take a ferry.
