Take the Longest Cableway for Tatev Monastery

The Tatev Monastery is a magnificent mediaeval structure perched on the edge of an 850-meter-high cliff above springs and surrounded by breathtaking mountainous scenery. The 9th-century Tatev monastery is a must-see not only for its religious and historical significance but also for the spectacular natural landscapes that surround it.

This was the site of Armenia’s most prominent scholastic and spiritual centre part era. Today, this historic and well-known complex is unquestionably one of Armenia’s most impressive sights. Travellers should take the cableway between Halidzor and the monastery to get there and enjoy the breathtaking views from above.

Visi the Natural Wonder of Lake Sevan

One of Armenia’s natural wonders is Lake Sevan. It is so high up in the mountains that when you sit on the bank, the water surface seems to be about to hit the horizon, making it the perfect place to cool off on hot summer days. This magnificent lake is the Caucasus’  largest and probably most spectacular one which travellers love to visit.

The church is also an excellent vantage point. Locals refer to it as “the Armenian Sea”. It is extremely calming for visitors to spend an afternoon watching the water change colours every hour. Travellers can also visit Sevanavank, a beautiful ancient monastery built out of rough black stones.

Visit the Stunning Khor Virap Monastery

Monastery Khor Virap is nestled on a small hill in the Ararat Valley. It is that castle in which the illuminator St. Gregory was imprisoned for 13 years until he cured the ill King Trdat III. He was converted to Christianity by the recovery of the King. This has made Armenia in 301 the world’s first country to embrace Christianity.

The underground chamber where the Saint took place and the magnificent monastery at Khor Virap itself can be visited by tourists today. The setting is one of the most impressive ones in Armenia.

Enjoy the Scenic View from Mount Ararat

Your trip is not worthy without admiring the majestic natural landmark of Armenia i.e. Mount Ararat at Yerevan. This mountain stands tall with its white icy look just like a cherry on the cake looks majestic in all seasons. Mount Ararat has long served as a symbol of the motherland for all Armenians and it continues to do so today. Since it was mentioned in the Bible during the tale of the Great Flood, Ararat is known as a Biblical hill.

Ararat can be seen from many parts of Yerevan, but for the best view, climb to the top of the Cascade or visit the Victory Park observation area. Drive out of Yerevan to the monastery of Khor Virap for a truly stunning view, where you will feel as though you can almost touch it.

Khosrov Forest State Reserve

Khosrov Forest is also known for Khosrov State Reserve. It is one of the oldest protected areas in the world located in the Ararat Province. This forest reserve is situated 2,300 m above sea level and owns unique Asian and European flora & fauna. King Khosrov III established the reserve to improve the natural-climatic conditions of the nearby city of Artashat.

The royal family used it as a hunting ground as well. It consists of a large mountain region, with a strong network of main and branch elevations, deep canyons and high plateaus, with volcanic peaks.

Discover Garni Temple at Garni Canyon

The breathtaking Garni Canyon, with its beautiful vertical cliffs and unusual basalt polygon columns known as the “Symphony of Stones,” is located in Yerevan. When viewed from a distance, the cliffs mimic a giant pipe organ.

A visit to this breathtaking gorge, which is thought to have evolved as a result of long-ago volcanic eruptions, is highly recommended. The trip can also be paired with a visit to Armenia’s only pagan temple, the Temple of Garni, which was constructed in the first century.

Explore the Mysterious Zvartnots Cathedral

Many stories are reloving around the Zvartnots Cathedral which is Armenia’s most mysterious cathedral. This magnificent memorial is a three-story building with a dome. Based on this mystical cathedral, a trench is in the form of a key about which various opinions exist.

Now many cryptograms have been converted into ruins in the cathedral, but how such a complex architectural structure can be built during the 7th century. Only travellers can see the relics of this old cathedral and admire the panoramic view of Mount Ararat.

Hike the Dilijan National Park

Dilijan National Park, in the Tavush Province, is renowned for its curative mineral water fountains. This lush green forested region is sometimes referred to as the “Switzerland of Armenia” because of its biodiversity, history and natural beauty. Hiking and mountain biking are two common outdoor activities in the National Park.

National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet

The National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet is an architectural masterpiece of Armenia, designed by Alexander Tamanyan and located in the heart of Yerevan, is a work of art.
