Pench National Park is situated in the core of India, Madhya Pradesh in the regions of Seoni and Chhindwara. Park is named after the Pence river which flows through the National Park. The park has its notice in the remarkable story of 1894, ‘The Jungle Book’, wrote by the prestigious English writer Rudyard Kipling. The story was praised all over the world and making the Pench National Park one of the famous destinations in India during the 1970s and a noticeable vacation destination in the world.

Each year tons of natural life lovers run to this spot to detect the famous characters of the book, Akela (The Indian Wolf), Raksha (the female Wolf), Baloo (Sloth Bear) and the Sher Khan (Royal Bengal Tiger).

Wildlife At Pench National Park

Pench National Park has vibrant fauna and it’s home countless species. The most predominant predator is Tiger. There are some different predators like Dhol (Indian Wild Dog), Panther, Hyena, Wolf, Jackal and wilderness Feline. Some prey species saw in the park are Sambhar, Chital, Gaur, Muntjac, Langur, Wild Hog and Rhesus Macaques. Regularly observed species are a crowd of Deer.

There are more than 170 types of fowls involving a few fleeting ones like Peafowl, Crow, Junglefowl, Red-Vented Bulbul, Dark Red-Breasted Barbet, Jaybird Robin, lesser whistling greenish-blue, racket-followed Drongo, Egret, Pintail, Shoveler and Herons are some examples.

Pench National Park is divided into seven zones, as given below.

  1. Turia
  2. Karmajhiri
  3. Jamtara
  4. Rukhad
  5. Wolf Sanctuary
  6. Sillari
  7. Khursapar

Turia is considered as the most popular zone to get a sight of a Tiger. The region has various water bodies and consequently, the odds of spotting wild creatures around these streams are more when contrasted with different zones. However, if you prefer night safari to explore the Pench National Park, then Wolf Sanctuary is the perfect zone for that.

Best Time To Visit

Summer: March To June, despite the sizzling summer, a large number of wildlife enthusiasts still visit the park during this time.

Winter: November To Feb, the best season to visit Pench National Park due to the pleasant weather conditions. During this time, the park receives a cold temperature that makes it easy for buffs.

Rainy: July To September, Monsoon is the reproduction season of the wild animals and hence, the park remains closed till mid-October.

Safari Timings

Safari timing in Pench National Park is the same as other national parks of India. Early morning wildlife safari is the most worthwhile to spot Tigers and other rare animals.

Winter Safari Timing:

  • Morning: 7:30 to 10:30 am
  • Evening: 3:00 to 5: 00 pm

Summer Safari Timing:

  • Morning: 6:00 to 9:30 am
  • Evening: 4:00 to 6:00 pm

Tourist Attractions

Sitaghat: This spot is a winding way that is near the bank of waterway Pench, dotted with rocks and masterful looking trees. Throughout the late spring season, white blossoms and shrubs lope from the beginning with the bank. To see these blooms in full bloom, it is must to visit in the early morning hours. The spot likewise seems, by all accounts, to be a delightful spot for untamed life touring.

Alikatta: This spot is another energizing fascination that has an exciting territory of field, where creatures are likewise watched. At night time, there is a superb perspective on brushing crowds containing a great many spotted deer. One can also appreciate elephant rides that start from this spot.

Chhindimatta Road: Journeying over rough slopes, it is viewed as a position of enthusiasm for the tremendous Pench store. The rugged bluffs make incredible spots for panthers. Different species like Eagles, Buzzards and birds of prey are watched approaching over their homes.

Bodhanala Range: This zone merits touring for guests. It begins from slopy slope, bamboo timberland to an enormous lake near the outskirt of the park. It is an ideal region for raptors.

How To Reach

By Airways: Sonegaon Airport located at Nagpur is about 92 km is the nearest airport from the park. Nagpur airport is connected to Delhi, Mumbai and major cities. Jabalpur also serves as a convenient airway with regular flights from Delhi.

By Railways: Nagpur-92 km and Jabalpur-192 km serve as a prominent railhead connected to Delhi, Mumbai and other major cities. Delhi-Chennai, Delhi-Bangalore and Delhi-Bilaspur trains halt at Nagpur.

By Roadways: NH-7 connects the Pench National Park to Nagpur. The drive time from Nagpur is taking around 2 hrs and Jabalpur is 4 hrs.
