Appreciate the UNESCO listed Kasubi Tombs

The Kasubi Tombs, which were first constructed in 1881 on Kasubi Hill in Kampala, are a burial ground for four kabakas. They represent the era of the Buganda Kingdom and their lifestyle. The tombs were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001 but were unfortunately destroyed.

These tombs are a symbol of spiritual, political and social ethics and represent the beliefs of Ugandan people. The Malibu Azaala Mpanga, the main structure, which is circular and topped by a dome, now houses four royal tombs. It is a notable example of an organic architectural epitome, primarily made of wood, thatch, reed, wattle and daub. History buffs must visit this heritage structure in Uganda.

Hike the Rwenzori Mountains

Uganda is blessed with beautiful mountain ranges. The snow-capped Rwenzori mountains in the southwest, Elgon in the east, Mt. Moroto, Napak and Kadam in the north are all worth visiting. Out of all, Rwenzori is revered as one of the most dramatic as portrays a stunning snow-capped range of mountains.

Its unique flora gives travellers an appearance of a fairy tale hiking scene. This African mountain range stretches nearly 120 km along the Congolese border, is renowned for its fantastic hiking and climbing options. It’s also a habitat for endangered Angola colobus monkey.

Track Gorillas at Bwindi National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to over 400 mountain gorillas, the highest population in the world. And tracking mountain Gorillas in Bwindi is probably the most exceptional wildlife experience on earth for any wildlife lover. It is one of the top things to do on the Uganda bucket list. This beautiful national park houses a plethora of plants, birds and animal species.

Gorilla trekking is subject to strict rules and visitors to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park must first obtain a trekking permit before embarking on a guided tour into the jungle.

Explore the Exquisite Kampala City

Kampala is the capital city of Uganda which is also renowned as the nightlife capital of East Africa. This charming city of Uganda fascinates all the travellers and plays an important role in staying after hectic trekking national parks and adventure scenes. This city offers many tourist attractions, such as Kabaka’s Palace defining the power and glory of the Buganda Kingdom.

This cosmopolitan city is a blend of cultures, with some being very traditional and some being very urban. Kampala offers a diverse range of cultural experiences thanks to its diverse population. Kibale rainforest in Kibale National Park in southern Uganda is the best place in East Africa to watch chimps swinging from one tree to tree. This magnificent park is home to 325 bird species and at least 60 mammal species, including 13 ape species. Kibale National Park’s flora is equally impressive. So visiting this national park is also on the to-do list if you for nature & wildlife lovers.

On a relaxing boat safari in Queen Elizabeth, experience the excitement of Africa’s most challenging white water rafting on the Nile River. Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to four of the Big Five and a flock of colourful flamingos and unusual wildlife. Don’t miss to visit the remote Ishasha Plains which is famous for getting the rare chance to see the tree-climbing lions and tigers.

There are over 90 mammal species in total, as well as over 500 bird species, in the park. It has almost unusual biodiversity encompassing a diverse range of landscapes and ecosystems.

Enjoy Murchison Falls Safari

Appreciate the Nile River by taking a morning or afternoon boat safari to Murchison Falls, where you will be able to see the spectacular waterfall up close. The Nile River erupts through a narrow 7m gorge and flows down giving a tranquil view.

On game drives, boat safaris and walks along the river bank to the top of the falls, discover the beauty of Uganda’s largest protected area, Murchison National Park. Even along the banks of the river, which is brimming with hippo, crocodile, elephant, dense birdlife and wildlife. Walk along the thundering Murchison Falls and explore the natural forest of Mt Elgon.

Watch Sunset at the Ssese Islands

Ssese island is renowned for beholding panoramic views during sunset. It is an 84-island archipelago spread along Lake Victoria’s northwest shore is known for its stunning white sandy beaches.

Buggala is the most accessible beach, while Banda is more of a traditional backpackers’ paradise. So travellers it is the perfect place to unwind yourself while enjoying a few drinks and a meal along the shore.

Experience Adrenaline Rush at Jinja

No visit to Uganda is complete without visiting the beautiful town of Jinja. This town acts as the departure point for a host of adventure activities on and around the river Nile. It is known as the thrilling capital of East Africa. It is the source of the mighty Nile River and a must-see destination for those seeking adrenaline rushes by white-water rafting and kayaking. Jinja is home to some of the best waterfalls in Africa.

If water isn’t your thing, bungee jumping is a great way to get your adrenaline fix. Quad biking and horseback riding are also available in the villages along the Nile at Jinja.

Apart from them, you can see other attractions which include –

  • Baha’i Temple: It is Africa’s only temple, also known as the Mashri’qul-Adhkar and the Mother Temple of Africa has attracted the Baha’i community and nonbelievers from all over the world.
  • Gaddafi Mosque: It is the biggest mosque in Uganda which is situated in Kampala, you can get a full 360° panoramic view of Uganda from the skyscraper tower of the Mosque.
  • Lake Victoria: It is the largest lake in Uganda and the second-largest freshwater lake in the world. This lake provides a perfect place for those who are looking for serenity, boat cruises and fishing excursions and want to catch the sunset.

When To Visit Uganda:

Visit between March and May or October and November to get even better deals. Since these are the wettest months, the treks are more difficult and slick, but the trekking packages and permits are often much cheaper. Don’t risk your life, be cautious before choosing any holiday package of Uganda.
